Getting my financial life together…. I hope?

The new year is approaching and that means we are all setting new goals, including myself. With the past year being as crazy as it is, it really made me realize how important it is to be financially prepared for anything. With anything, I mean anything! From a pandemic to my cat needing a new water fountain.

With me turning 23 in October, I have had a wild financial ride as a financially unresponsible teenager grown into a young adult. I can also tell you that the ride still isn’t over. In the past year, I have started saving up money and investing. I have set small goals for myself, and some of them I reached, and some of them I will have to bring into the new year.

What did I do in 2020?

2020 started rough. I was broke in January and took out some loans. I don’t even remember anymore why I didn’t have money. In February I started a new job. I did financially improve from that decision. After about a month of working at my new job, the pandemic hit, and the whole world went into lockdown. I was fortunate enough to be able to keep my job and have multiple streams of income. I am still a student and I do take out a student loan in combination with a part-time job and some side hustles.

During the lockdown, I started reading into investing money in different ways. Keep in mind that I don’t have any experience in investing at all. I stumbled upon P2P lending on the platform Mintos. When reading more into P2P lending and the platform Mintos, I felt comfortable enough to start and put my money into it. I started with €20 and gradually build that up. I set a goal for myself, to put money on my Mintos account every month till I reach €500. I reached that goal a few months back, and that is when the interest really starts to pay off. Here is my affiliate link, so we can all make money move together.

I also started with a body jewelry line. That was just out of pure boredom. I love staying creative while making some extra cash.

What I didn’t do?

Of course, I did not reach every goal that I set for myself the past year. One of my favorite Youtuber started her own financial channel. With her youtube video, she learned me all the ins and outs of budgeting. I wanted to start budgeting too. So, I got her budgeting spreadsheet, and I literally only filled in the first two months. For the rest of the months, I just prayed and hoped that I wouldn’t be living off of instant noodles instead of properly budgeting. I hope to reach the goal of consistently budgeting in the new year.

What are my goals for the new year?

For the new year, I also want to pay off most of my debt. I also started investing in cryptocurrency this month and I want to get into buying stocks and index funds. I will definitely update you all on that.
